Customs and Quarantine for Entry into New Zealand

New Zealand’s custom regulations are much like those of other countries but it has some of the toughest countries and policies around the world.
Visitors over 17 years old are permitted to bring 1125ml of spirits or 4.5 litres of wine or beer and 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars or 250 grams of tobacco into New Zealand without having to pay for import obligations. Personal and private items such as mobile phones and other electronic products are permitted for import without having to pay import duties; as long as these items are taken with you out of the country.

The Customs Service is in charge of intercepting and seizing contraband. They inspect travelers and their belongings, as well as packages and mail for prohibited and illegal items. They are responsible for the collection of Customs duties, exise taxes, and the like on imported goods and shielding New Zealand’s industries from illegal trade.
Due to New Zealand's geographical circumstances, a unique range of flora and fauna grew free of the numerous pests and diseases that plague other countries. In that regard, the Ministry of Agriculture and Quarantine Service is exceptionally vigilant about keeping these problems off the shores of the country.
Upon entry, you will have to declare all food or animal and plant products you have with you. In addition, most unpacked food will not be allowed. Dirty boots, shoes, and camping paraphernalia will be checked by quarantine officers for they may contain pests and diseases that could be introduced into the country. Expect questions pertaining to travel to agricultural areas and whether you have engaged in any form of outdoor activity.
