Everyone loves to spend time decorating their homes to make them look and feel more comfortable and presentable. From the paint you put on your walls to the home furnishings you purchase they all speak volumes about who you are and what where your tastes run. But when it comes to such accessories as a good rug you really need to protect it if you want it to last for many years to come. For example, if you are creating a home office to begin working from home or just a simple office to take care of your household affairs there are many tips and tricks you can employ so that your floor covering does not get ruined from all the furniture.
One of the pieces of furniture that can really wear down any rug is an office chair. The reason for this is because most come with rollers that allow your chair to roll back and forth across the floor between your desk and other parts of your office area. And it is this constant wear that can do quite a bit of damage to the backings of your floor covering which will then cause wrinkling, tears, and buckling. However, you will find that with a simple thing as purchasing a rubber floor mat to place under your rolling area you will save yourself a lot of misery from a torn rug.
On the other hand, if the material under your floor is concrete then a standard mat will only make matters worse. A concrete floor will often have a lot of moisture that comes through it from the ground on which it is sits. While a rug and a mat allow the concrete to breathe and therefore evaporate that moisture a rubber mat will trap it instead. And from this you will find that your rug will begin to rot away and build up mildew. Therefore, if your home office floor is made of concrete then you may want to use something like a hard desk mat to place under your chair.
You will find that this type of material will not only protect your rug but also allows the floor to breath under the floor covering. However, if you are looking for a more permanent fix then perhaps you should consider building up a sort of platform for your home office area or even perhaps install laminate or hard wood in the area where your chair will be. This is often the course that many people choose when they have decided to work from home. It not only allows them to truly define their new office space but also protects all the hard work you put into getting just the right rug for each room. In the end it is important to remember to try and think ahead when changing the way you use your home. This will not only save carpeting but also save you money in the long run as you will not have to purchase replacement rugs as often.
